Italienska expeditionen till Norra ishafvet med "Stella Polare" 1899-1900

Ludwig Amadeus von Savoyen & Umberto Cagni 1901 1st (Swedish) ed.

ENG This slim volume (English title "Farther North than Nansen, being the Voyage of the Polar Star") offers the first account of the Duke of the Abruzzi’s (full name: Ludwig Amadeus af Savoyen) achievements in the Arctic. In 1899, aboard the Stella Polare (Polar Star), the crew of 20 sailed for Franz Josef Land, the base for their attempt on the North Pole. Captain Umberto Cagni and three other men attained a new farthest north - 86° 34’ - and Stella Polare itself attained the farthest north for a ship.

1st (Swedish) edition. A full version of the Duke’s expedition appeared as "On the Polar Star in the Arctic Sea" (1903), but was preceded by this rather uncommon 1901 version. The volume is combined with another book, "Palästina och dess historia" ("Palestine and its history") by Dr. H. von Soden.
